Emotional Trauma:

When we say, "My back is killing me!", or "I get choked up..."
Does this have any relevance to how our body feels, whether ill, or healthy?

Emotions, and our words to ourselves and others:
They DO affect our physical health.

I compare the troubles which we have to undergo in the course of the year to a great bundle of sticks, far too large for us to lift. But God does not require us to carry the whole at once. He mercifully unties the bundle, and gives us first one stick, which we are to carry today, and then another, which we are to carry tomorrow, and so on. This we might easily manage, if we would only take the burden appointed for us each day; but we choose to increase our troubles by carrying yesterday's stick over again today, and adding tomorrow's burden to our load, before we are required to bear it.

"Amazing Grace" is a Christian hymn published in 1779, with words also written by the English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton (1725–1807).

Stress affects us all. It can immobilize us and cause us to fear, and experience other negative emotions. Problems are common to man. They are equal opportunity. We all experience them. It's our attitude towards what happens, and how we respond to problems and stress that can make or break our joy or bring dis-ease. God give us enough light to take the NEXT STEP…. God's Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path…. We used to measure our light in 'foot candle' power… Our lives need to be a faith walk…. We need to Trust God for every step we take, every breath we take, and just get in the habit of NOT looking at ALL OF THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS AT ONCE…. as it will totally overwhelm us, and bring us worry and stress that we have no control over to make any difference.

We need to just look at what God's put directly before us, and DO THE NEXT THING! That's all He requires… is to do just what He's put before US… Don't try and take on the entire world's problems…. We'll never solve them. We need only to be faithful to look to HIM, to faithfully tackle what duties God has given US to discharge. This will bring us peace, and a sense of accomplishment, which will in turn, give us Joy.

In the end, there is very little that God requires of us:

He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? ~ Micah 6:8

When we harbor negative emotions toward others or toward ourselves, or when we intentionally create pain for others, we poison our own physical and spiritual systems. Be far the strongest poison to the human spirit is the inability to forgive oneself or another person. It disables a person's emotional resources.

The challenge .. is to refine our capacity to love others as well as ourselves and to develop the power of forgiveness.

Are there constructive and healthy ways to deal with realities of our hurts and angers, without sin? Is there really healthy anger? Is it alright to be angry? How long is long enough?
